Final Assignment

Task No 1 (Mind map)

Creating Mind Map for our Assignment

Task No 2 Laptop Mind Map (focus point)

Our group choose laptop as our focus point. The topic is "Laptop as a medium that powered multimedia". This topic had been come out during our discussion with lecturer.

Essay for our Assignment.

Laptop is the medium that powered creative multimedia

Mobility, I’m pretty sure that word comes to people’s mind first when we talk about laptops. Laptop’s, as explained by Wikipedia, is a personal computer designed for mobile use. It integrates most of the typical components of a desktop computer, including a display, a keyboard, a pointing device and speakers into a single unit. Meanwhile, creative multimedia is the vehicle in which emerging technologies drive home the concept of multimedia communications in business, art and design, entertainment and education.
Laptop is the answer to all the concept of creative multimedia, it can do all kind of works related with this technologies. Fulfilling the title as a medium that can work anywhere, and mobility as its major strength, laptop’s been used by professionals as well as students to create something and not to forget, to search something in these multimedia era by using internet. Arts have no boundary, same goes to laptops. It can increase the productivity of someone as they don’t need to stuck in front of their desktop searching for ideas instead they can go out and get some ideas by bring out their laptops, sit in the park, inhale fresh air, believe me, it certainly can help them searching new ideas. Besides that, the size, low power consumption, quiet, battery and all-in-one features certainly proved as other major factors that leads consumer to choose laptop as their portable medium that powered creative multimedia as these technologies are limitless.
The creative media and information businesses have always been a crucial contributor to the economy. Together, the creative and media business sectors invest, produce and disseminate a huge array of content that educates, informs and entertains the public. It is this creative content that people are looking for when they are connecting to the Internet, activating their broadband connection, switching on their mobile phones or choosing a channel on their TV service.
Since laptop is widely used in today’s life style, a lot of artists started using it to design and create their works. There’s a lot of application and software that can be used by the artists to design and create the work. Some of the most popular software used for drawing and painting was Corel Painter, ArtRage, Adobe Illustrator, ArtWeaver and CorelDraw. Other software like Adobe Flash, AutoCAD, DAZ Studio, Adobe After Effects and Adobe Photoshop was used to make 3D modelling, animation and also to edit photos. There are a lot more software like this to help modern artist do of create their master piece by just using laptop.
With all this software, artist can make their works anywhere their like and anytime they want. Unlike in the old days, the artist does not have to go outside to draw or paint their artworks but they can do it at their house or at a coffee shop instead. They also don’t have to concern about the weather such as rains or snows or even hot weather. They can also save a lot of money using the software because we all know that the tool for painting and drawing does not come cheap.
In the future, laptop will be known and used in many ways. Laptop can also be improved in the future by upgrading its functionality and power. Ultimately the next generation of laptop that will be deemed as truly revolutionary will have to incorporate once specific aspiration that is to be far more environmentally friendly and have considerably more power saving functionality. One way for designers to conserve power without sacrificing brightness however it is to utilise the new OLED technology organic light emitting diodes are rapidly becoming the hottest development in computer and television design for the unbelievable sharpness, brightness and impressively low power consumption.

As for the designs, laptop could be design in many ways in the future. One of the examples of the future laptop is the Roll Top laptop. It is a flexible notebook concept that can be folded like a roll of paper allowing the user ultimate convenience of carrying and storing it even in a congested place. It features a 17” flat-screen OLED display when fully rolled out with the multi-touch facility that will offer the ease and functionality of that of an iPhone. Also, when required, it can be folded into a 13” smart tablet pc. Aside from the touch-screen controlling, it features fully fledged keyboard like conventional notebooks with which convenient typing can be performed. When folded, this compact notebook takes the size of a water carrier and can easily be hanged over the shoulder with a hanging belt.

The future of the laptop is bright, as it is such an important device to society there is a great deal of work being undertaken to find improvements. One thing is certain, the laptop of the future will be faster, stronger, easier to use and this will also contribute to empowered creativity in people’s heart.

Juxtaposition

What is Juxtaposition?

"Juxtaposition can be defined as placing two variables, side by side and their contrast or similarities are shown through comparison. Many creative processes rely on juxtaposition. By juxtaposing two objects or words next to each other, human brain will automatically associate or transfer meaning. Usually 'turning' something familiar to something less familar or vice-versa."

It can be conclude that , juxtaposition means placing things side by side to bring out a specific quality or creating an effect. The similarities and differences between the two elements will attract the viewer's attention.

Mortar and Pestle

A mortar and pestle is a tool used to crush, grind, and mix solid substances. The pestle is a heavy bat-shaped object, the end of which is used for crushing and grinding. The mortar is a bowl, typically made of hard wood, marble, clay, or stone. The substance to be ground is placed in the mortar and ground, crushed or mixed with the pestle.

It is used as medical as traditionally used in pharmacies to crush various ingredients prior to preparing an extemporaneous prescription. For pharmaceutical use, the mortar and the head of the pestle are usually made of porcelain, while the handle of the pestle is made of wood. This is known as a Wedgwood mortar and pestle and originated in 1779. It can be used as drug paraphernalia to grind up pills to speed up absorption when they are ingested, or in preparation for insufflation.

It also can be used in cooking to prepare ingredients as well as grinding spices into powder. Mortar and pestle is used in Mexican cooking. Native American use mortar carved into bedrock to grind acorns and other nuts. Japan use with wooden mallets to prepare mochi. Granite mortars and pestles mostly used in Southeast Asia as well as Pakistan and India. India use extensively to make spices mixtures for various delicacies as well as day to day dishes. It also traditionally used in various Hindu ceremony including weddings. Malay called it as lesung and use it to grind meat for a type of meatloaf or kibbeh as well as the hummus variety known as masabcha. But, now days the uses of mortal and pestle have decreases because people nowadays uses motorized grinders because it it faster for them to crush and grind the materials to be used for cooking. Thai called it as kruk and use it to make pestos, spice rubs, tapenades and vinaigrettes.

Below is the example of a associated mind map using mortar and pestle as the main subject. Have fun seeing and understanding things in a new way!

Mind Mapping

A Mind Map is a graphically way to represent ideas and concepts. It helps to structure information, helping a person to analyze, synthesize, and generate new ideas. In a Mind Map, the structures resembles how a person's brain actually works. Using colors, images to bring mere words to life, Mind mapping is a powerful way to convey ideas.

we use mind maps for :

* Note taking
* Brainstorming
* Problem solving
* Planning
* Memorizing
* Presenting information

There are two types of Mind Map :

* Logical Mind Map
* Associated Mind Map

We can use mind map to explore and develop ideas for a specific problem, use it to think, take notes during discussions and summarize books and papers. We can quickly identify, prove and understand the structure of a subject. Mind maps encourage creative problem solving, summarizing information, and thinking through complex or difficult problems.

Besides that, brainstorm in projects helps to create a mind map. This is because we can exchange ideas and manage tasks during brainstorming. Brainstorming is a process for developing creative ways to problems and difficulties. It works by focusing on a problem, then coming up with solutions and by pushing the ideas. It is an extremely effective method because the brainstorming can come out with a lot of new ideas in a session.

In a conclusion, mind mapping is very effective in taking notes. Mind maps show facts and structure of a subject. Mind maps help us to come out with ideas and solve problems.

Example mind mapping

We had been asking to create a mind map about us. Below is mind map about myself by using photoshop.

NOVELTY, INVENTION & INNOVATION

For the week 2 we discuss about novelty, invention and innovation. After searching on the internet I found lots of meaning for Novelty.

NOVELTY - New.

* the quality of being novel; newness; freshness.
*something new, fresh, or unusual; change; innovation.

INVENTION & INNOVATION

INVENTION
*The act of finding out or inventing; contrivance or construction of that which has not before existed; as, the invention of logarithms; the invention of the art of printing.
*Something originated by experiment, etc.; new device or contrivance

INNOVATION
*comes from the Latin innovātus which means to renew. Innovation can therefore be seen as the process that renews something that exists and not, as is commonly assumed, the introduction of something new.
*the introduction of new ideas, goods, services, and practices which are intended to be useful (though a number of unsuccessful innovations can be found throughout history). An essential element for innovation is its application in a commercially successful way.

INVENTION
EXAMPLE

Benjamin Franklin -paved the way for an understanding of electricity with his famous experiments. When performing his kite experiment, he discovered that lightning is electricity.He also inventor of Bifocal Glasses, the Cast Iron Stove and the Lightning Rod.

INNOVATION
EXAMPLE

Benjamin Franklin was an inventor. He was curious and he loved to learn about new things. He also thought it was important to make life better with the things that he invented. Electricity was one of the things he experimented with when he retired from his business. Ben discovered that lightning and electricity were the same thing. The lightning rod was an important invention that we still use today.
